Re: Best way to move overseas investments to Japan brokerage (IBSJ)?
Thank you for your helpful comment, @Tkydon. I have been in Japan for more than 5 of the last 10 years. Ah, I see that I should have made this clear. I am a permanent resident, both for tax purposes and by visa status, making me subject to the 5-year rule. https://adamfayed.com/expats/expat-taxes/wh...

Best way to move overseas investments to Japan brokerage (IBSJ)?
Hello, all. I'm extremely grateful for this fantastic forum. My question concerns moving investments from overseas. Any advice would be much appreciated. I am a US citizen and have some investments in a US brokerage that were started a long time ago before I came to Japan. Now that I'm firmly settle...

Re: Son at Japanese uni graduating later than 4yrs
I won't deny that you can probably find hiring managers somewhere who might find this concerning or try to hold it against your son somehow, but in my experience working for several Japanese and overseas-headquartered organizations hiring armies of recent graduates each year, I can't recall an insta...

My suspicion is that the procedure and language used are not likely to change too much year-to-year, so if you can fight your way through it once with the help of translation tools and/or a friend with higher proficiency, and take good notes, then doing it again in the future should be fairly straig...

Re: Online university courses for upskilling
I can only speak to the particular field of IT, but there are many options. There are indeed online university degree programs and expensive boot camps that vary in quality, but there are also tons of high-quality free and inexpensive options as well. IT is very broad, so trying to list them all her...

Re: Getting up to date vaccination in Japan
Can I simply visit a doctor and ask for any recommended vaccines? A physician might wish to inquire about your medical history. Gathering some information about immunization regimens in your home country, or if possible, roughly compiling your personal vaccination history might help speed the conve...

Re: Saily eSIMs
Whether you can continue to make and receive calls through your local Japan mobile number abroad does indeed depend on your phone hardware, but there may be additional factors: the particular cellular/radio technologies used in your destination (although these seem to be more standardized internatio...

Re: SIM/eSIM (Europe)
When traveling abroad, I often look at both Airalo and Holafly and compare pricing. These are both major eSIM carriers in many countries, and one often offers better service or pricing in the target country to which you're planning to travel. A quick glance at both websites can often lead you to a d...

Re: I need recommendation on reasonable English speaking orthodontists in Tokyo.
I have had good experiences with Hitomi Dental Office in Akasaka, but have not used them for a full orthodontic course of treatment. Reasonableness is subjective, but they seem to be at neither the least nor the most expensive ends of the spectrum, from my experience in Tokyo. https://www.hitomident...
