Passport renewal times

Any recent experiences?

Reddit has some people mentioning 2-4 weeks, but those posts are from a year or so back.

I renewed mine last year (2024) and if I remember correctly it took maybe 3 weeks before I received the new one. A rather painless process as I mailed my old passport in with the application.

This Guide to Japanese Taxes, English and Japanese Tai-Yaku 対訳, is now a little dated:

The Publisher is not planning to publish an update for '23 Tax Season.

This is in the US citizens part of the forum.
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

I sent it to the Osaka Consulate Jan 2nd (received on 3rd), and I just got the notice that it is now "processing" and will take 6-8 weeks, plus shipping time.

With a March trip planned that is cutting it close, but I am betting that the timeline is more in line with others' experiences.

That's what I'm hoping for.
