Many thanks for very informative site and aplogoes if these 2 basic questions have been answered elsewhere.
1: For the Tsumitate NISA, does it have to be invested monthly, or can the whole year's amount be invested upfront eg as bonus?
2: When is the NISA year calculated, is it 1 year from date account opened? Or by calendar year / tax year etc?
Many thanks in advance.

You have to set up a monthly investment, but it's possible to make it a small amount such as ¥1000/mo, then pay the rest of the allowance as a single bonus payment.

Note that the account called "Tsumitate NISA" was discontinued last year, and now there is a combined NISA with a Tsumitate portion.

Calendar year.
