furusato Nozei Eligibility if I receive tax deduction on dependants

Post by tofusoba14 »

Hello All,

First of all, this forum is very helpful and very well organized.
Today I want to ask about two questions that i heard rumors about but I'm not sure of the exact information so would like to ask here.
If this questions is already answered, apologies, please post the link of the thread where i can find the answers

1. I have been working in 5+ years in Japan and since I arrived from the first year itself I added my parents as overseas dependants to receive tax deduction. Does this addition mean I am not eligible for Furusato Nozei application ?

2. Does overseas dependents factor in a rejection of Permanent Residency application in future ? I have not seen this in any official document of immigration website, but heard it from a friend, so just want to confirm that it's not true.

Thank you.

No, dependents have nothing to do with furusato nozei.

Nobody except an insider can confirm for you 100% whether they look at that, and if they do how much weight it holds, but logically and on the balance of probabilities, I'd say it's highly unlikely. Anecdotally, I know of one friend who got his PR with overseas dependents, so it is not impossible, but that is just one anecdote and doesn't prove or disprove anything.

There's a dependent deduction you get. Not sure if that affects whatever tax furusato nozei affects (if there is a smaller pool of tax to donate from, your furusato nozei pool logically goes down)

Sounds right to me "paying less tax means less furusato." You should be able to play around with the calculators to find out exactly how much your potential donation allowance will go down with each dependent.

thank you everyone for your answers.
I will apply for furusato this year and find out the change in case of having dependants and post the information here later for future reference
