In the U.S. it is recommended to keep bonds in retirement accounts to reduce taxes. Is this applicable to Japan as well?

Since bonds aren't paying much these days, it may be better to keep appreciating assets in those accts.

I agree. Especially considering you can rebalance in your iDeCo at any time.

My experience with bonds so far.

eMAXIS Slim 先進国債券インデックス +527 +0.26 %
楽天・全世界債券インデックス(為替ヘッジ)ファンド -522 -1.03 %

Perhaps I should have bought 2029 treasury notes via Rakuten...

Speaking about US treasury notes. Isn't the US government issue them several times a year?

According to the following link:

https://www.treasury.gov/resource-cente ... ctions.pdf

The next tentative for 10 years notes (and 3 years as well) is Wednesday, May 05, 2021 (announcement), Wednesday, May 12, 2021(auction) and Monday, May 17, 2021 (settlement). I have never tried to buy any of this things and also wonder if Rakuten will offer them again, but who knows, depending on the rising interests it might be a future option.
