You don't have to bring a subset of the discussion from there here and represent it as all Bogleheads.

Not agreeing with recommendations to go all S&P500 is fair enough. Confusing that with Bogleheads is unhelpful.

also my wifes and my old isas are maturing 2026-bit more worried about this-but presume nothing can be done at this stage?!
S&P 500 is a bit narrow and US only, but has had fine long term performance. I have a fund from 2021 in it myself and I see it's up about 100%. I'm not selling it until the money is needed.

As for 2026 I don't think Trumpy will want to have elections with the stock market in this kind of state.

It should be fine!

My portfolio is down about 12% right now. Anybody buying at these levels (outside of regularly scheduled tsumitate investments) or are people waiting to see how it plays out? I have been selling some of my gold (to rebalance back to my asset allocation) and using the proceeds to buy global stock ETFs but I am more nervous than usual these days and not ready to commit to any big investments. This time does feel a little different to me and I am more nervous than usual.

I bought 20 man of the Maxis All Country ETF at the low two days ago in my taxable. [Currently down -1.2%]. I'll wash it into the 2026 New Nisa for Emaxis. (Same index).

I'm decades from retirement, this is a time to buy if you have spare cash. My total portfolio (Ideco/taxable and Nisas) are up 10% since I started 5 years ago. I am not too worried.

(I used my tax return. So technical this is Ideco savings I'm rolling back into investments.)

Absolutely! This a golden opportunity for anyone with spare cash. I love Ben's analogy earlier in this thread about the stickers being put on the fresh supermarket food at the end of the day

However, I've decided to deviate from my usual strategy of buying at 10%, 20% and 30% down for this one. Instead we're spending 10% of our spare cash every time the market drops to 5%, 10%, 15%, etc., all the way down to 50%. So 100% of spare cash in total. BUT, we're keeping my wife's NISA contributions for the next four years aside as cash (as discussed in another thread), and keeping USD and GBP cash in ultra short-term bonds for now.

What are we buying? 65% All Country (ETF version so I can get the right price), 30% Japanese high-dividend ETF and individual stocks, and 5% gold. I've decided not to add to our bond funds for now.

Good luck everyone!

Yes, I have.
I was overweight in bonds so I sold my BND holdings and bought VTI on Monday.
And I bought a similar amount in eMaxis slim developed markets equities yesterday.
I have another chunk ready to buy more, but I will save that for another plunge.
I might sell my BNDX too if things get even worse and buy more stock etfs

(It's a bit of a hassle to figure out how to navigate extra purchases around my regular tsumitate in nisa and I thought I should not use up the part I am paying for by credit card, but I probably put the cart before the horse there. If I had simply maxed out nisa at the start of the year I could simply focus on buying in my taxable account. I love simplicity...)

I've no idea how long this drama goes on, but the coronavirus episode probably felt similar for me. If it's a big failure this time, the next clown can come in on the promise of killing all tariffs, but I think things will work themselves out, as they usually do

Went 10% to cash in February, spent 1/10 of that on All-Country today in my/wife's NISA. Will slowly trickle it back in if things stay like this or drop.

Great to see that many of us are seeing this as a [cautious] buying opportunity! Proof that this community is a safe haven of cool-headed and rational opinions. I am exclusively buying cap-weighted global stocks with a slight overweight to Japan and Canada (more out of a sense of duty and loyalty than any prediction on the future). That said, I am extra-cautious this time and hoarding cash more than normal. With the Mad King and his crazy tariff button showing no sign of letting up I am not optimistic about any meaningful recovery for a while.

Nicely timed. I sold some stocks and converted some USD to Yen around that time but wish I had done more. If only I could see the future!!
