They allowed me to attempt to change my name today, I just tried. Rejected small "ッ” character, rejected "-" character, and rejected anything over 17 characters. What a mess.
I hade zero of these issues with Monex or Rakuten, SBI gets poor marks here!

Do you mean that if I had used Rakuten I could have had used more than 17 characters in my name?
I have 23 letters in my name.
Is it difficult to change from SBI to Rakuten NISA?

Does Monex or Rakuten have a English interface?

I have 19 characters in my name, and Monex and Rakuten worked fine.

Rakuten grilled me in Japanese before opening an account, Monex did not.
With Monex they do have English support for US equities trading, (via Trade station).
However, you need to be able to navigate in Japanese.Google translate works well.

Just received my Netbank card. It is a bit confusing, but basically there are two account.
1. Normal
2. Hybrid - Directly connected to SBI.
Just like any bank you can get your salary etc deposited in your account, but you'll need to transfer to the hybrid account to access it at SBI. This can be set-up automatically.
SBI Netbank give baseline customers (there are 4 levels of membership) the ability to make cash deposits via atm for free 1 or 2 times a month.
If you really wanted to avoid that 220 yen furikomi, you could.
1. Withdrawal from Yucho during the free window
2. Deposit via ATM to SBI Netbank
3. Transfer to Hybrid Account
