They're letting in People with PR who left after the cut off date for certain circumstances (such as family emergency) now. So if you absolutely need to go you should be able to come back.

Great news! I assume you left before the re-entry bans were implemented as that is the scope of this relaxation.OkLah! wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 8:38 am Got an email from my Embassy and from 5 August long term residents can come back. Main condition is to have negative PCR test.
I thought those tests have been available from quite some time so long term residents could have been allowed back earlier with same restriction.
Anyway that’s the way it is. I started a discussion a while back on a Plan B if Japan did not work out. My spouse visa expires in April next year and even though I don’t see any reason why I would be denied, I am ready if it is. Let’s see!!

For those of us still in Japan as of today. If you left now. You'll only get back based on your specific residence status, PR, Spouse, etc, and having a compelling reason to have left.(Note) The relaxation is only applied to those who have left Japan with re-entry permit before the day when country/region where such foreign nationals are currently staying was designated as an area subject to denial of permission to entry into Japan.

Err. OK. So the situation is completely unchanged for us at this time.
If we leave we need to have had a valid reason to hope to get back in.

This whole situation has made me pull out the naturalization paperwork from my drawer and look at it again.
