(seems) oil price will be going up, your action?

Post by gaijinkun »

Hello everyone,
(could not find topic where I can ask this question)
Very specific question, in case oil prices go up what OIL funds should I buy within NISA, should I?

Pretty much any time I have tried to be clever with investing according to the news, it has not gone well for me ;)

I sold all my fossil fuels last year, for personal reasons. But I also think in the long run they are doomed.

But you could have said that about tobacco stocks a long time ago, and investors have done very well with them.

Too hard for me.

Once the news is public, it's mostly priced in.

Buying it is essentially a gamble.

If you insist on investing in single stocks do it with a limited part of your funds. Like you could say "ok 10% of my investments in single stocks".

If you do get it right, it can be great, but for every disney, apple, coca cola or whatever, there are dozens of companies that go nowhere, or even disappear.

With all that said, I have two single stocks, MSFT and AMD, and both of them are significantly up(67% and 23%), but I think I just got lucky. But I did choose them based on knowledge of the industry. I sort of wish I'd put more in, but of course that's an emotional decision, not rational. They may well come crashing back down in a few years.

Wonderful advice, worth more than hours of reading of 'how to beat the market' websites.
