How to file a kakutei shinkoku without a my number card?

Post by KCLenny »

Hi all, as the title asks, how do I submit a kakutei shinkoku or final tax return if I don’t have a valid mynumber card?
I just happened to let it lapse and the office said it’d take 2 months to renew, so no chance it’ll arrive before the deadline. (To be clear, it expired in November last year, didn’t realise, applied for new one in February).
All I really need is to declare my healthcare costs really as mine and my wife’s total over the ¥100,000 bracket.

I’ve only ever done it online with my number card but obviously don’t have that option this time and don’t even know how to get onto the website without.
Is it better to just go to a tax office for a few hours?

File at the local office of the National Tax Agency

I do mine online (PC, not smartphone) without the aid of a Mynumber card, but I had to go to the tax office to apply for an account. Note this would have been around 2019, so not sure if the same procedure still applies.

Obtaining a 16 digit login number and a password still works for the kakutei shinkoku; but one needed to obtain it by physically going to the tax office. It is actually extremely smooth and doesn't require endless rounds of MN card readings via QR code and phone.

Oh, that sounds nice. I had a very smooth filing experience, but still had to log in at least a dozen times for some reason
