I had a job until last year which ended abruptly, so I went on unemployment insurance after that until I found a new job.
I've been doing the new job for 3 months, which has been considered a probation period. That period is almost over, so my new employer will enroll me in the pension. Below is the message I was sent. I don't want to reveal that I was on unemployment insurance benefits for a long time, as I think it reflects on me poorly. Also, if they are asking for information from my last employer, they will see when that job finished, so will guess I was unemployed for a while.
Just wondering how much I need to reveal.
Here is part of the message from my employer:
"I would like to proceed with the procedure to enroll in social insurance, so please let me know your current address and basic pension number(基礎年金番号).
Enrollment in social insurance is scheduled to start from January 1, 2025.
If you have received a tax withholding slip(源泉徴収票) from your previous workplace, please submit a screenshot. We will do the year-end adjustment here.
If you have any certificates necessary for year-end adjustment, such as life insurance or personal pensions, please send the screeshots to me.
The year-end adjustment will be done in January, so we will give you a withholding tax slip after that."
I don't have life insurance or a separate personal pension. Thanks in advance for any help.

This is just for them to do your tax return. All these things potentially lower your taxes. It is doubtful anyone beyond the HR staff will see the details.Self wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 7:29 am I had a job until last year which ended abruptly, so I went on unemployment insurance after that until I found a new job.

Edit: I lost my last job THIS year, not last year. (It just feels like ages ago.)

It's a very small company, so HR staff = my boss = my manager. This is just for them to do your tax return. All these things potentially lower your taxes. It is doubtful anyone beyond the HR staff will see the details.
Re: How much do I have to reveal to new employers regarding pension.
I would not worry about a gap of several months between jobs. I am the final step in hiring for my department and have hired mid-career people dozens of times here and actually assume there will be a gap of several months between jobs without that reflecting badly on the candidate. I think your performance during this probationary period is far more important and they would not be asking for this information if they were not planning on hiring you.
Re: How much do I have to reveal to new employers regarding pension.
Bit of a tangent, but this seems incredibly shady, if not illegal. Is it really OK for these firms to withhold enrollment into the pension until probation is over?

They need your address so that they can contact the right City Hall regarding Health Insurance
They need your Basic Pension Number so that they can make the payments to the correct account for your National Kosei Nenki Employee Pension Insurance, which is compulsory for them and you...
If you want them to do the Nenmatsu Chosei Year-end Tax Adjustment, then you will have to provide at least the tax withholding slip - Gensen Choushuhyo (源泉徴収票) . If you do not provide them, then you will have to do your own Tax Filing - Kakuteishinkoku in March.Self wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 7:29 am If you have received a tax withholding slip(源泉徴収票) from your previous workplace, please submit a screenshot. Re: How much do I have to reveal to new employers regarding pension.
I was wondering if it would be an option to tell the employer that you need to do a kakutei shinkoku and just tell them to skip the nenmatsu chosei.Tkydon wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 7:38 amSelf wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 7:29 am I had a job until last year which ended abruptly, so I went on unemployment insurance after that until I found a new job.

Re: How much do I have to reveal to new employers regarding pension.
Sure, that is an option. There might be a whole load of reasons why one might have to do a Kakutei Shinkoku.Beaglehound wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 11:16 am I was wondering if it would be an option to tell the employer that you need to do a kakutei shinkoku and just tell them to skip the nenmatsu chosei.
The Employer still needs the Basic Pension Number for paying the pension contributions next year.
I wonder if Self has Residents' Taxes for 2023, and whether he is paying those by himself, or through his new employer?
The employer will see the 2024 Income when they receive, or have to inform their Insurer for, the Health Insurance Bill in May 2025 and the Residents' Tax Bill in June 2025.

Re: How much do I have to reveal to new employers regarding pension.
Thank you. They told me earlier I would have to file my tax by myself. Just wondering if I have to provide them with paperwork regarding the unemployment benefits I received.Tkydon wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 7:38 amSelf wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 7:29 am I had a job until last year which ended abruptly, so I went on unemployment insurance after that until I found a new job.
