Ideco Contributions Card from Japan Pension Bureau

Post by Jamesblacktokyo »

Hello,

It's tax form submission time again for company workers.

Last year my peel-open postcard from the Japan Pension Bureau that states all my (12,000 yen) monthly IDECO payments I made never got delivered to my apartment, so I had the ballache of having to go to the tax office myself and fill it all in person. This one - 小規模企業共済等掛金払込証明書

I was just curious if anyone has received their postcards yet?

On a side note, my contributions over about 3 years have increased in value by 22%, is that pretty average? I am happy with it.

Thanks,
James

I read this as the Growth in Total Contributions from one year to the next.

And of course the growth in Contributions from one year to the next will decrease in % terms as the accumulated contributions grow over the years...

I'm assuming OP is talking about the growth in the account beyond what they contributed. Will depend on what they invested in of course.

Reading this made me curious so I had a look at my ideco performance, which I rarely do. I've been paying my 12,000 per month for about seven years now, and the site said:

Market value (時価評価額): 1,860,423 円
Profit/loss (評価損益): +881,233 円
Cumulative total invested (投資累計額): 979,190 円
Investment yield (運用利回り): 17.90 %

Which seems good, but I totally don't understand how the "investment yield" is calculated. I mean, the profit seems to be about 90% of the sum invested, so what is the 17.90%...??

I can never get my head around these figures.... :|??

This is the value of all the instruments you have purchased inside the iDeCo to date at the Market Close on the day before the postcard was sent.
MyTime wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 7:31 am Profit/loss (評価損益): +881,233 円
This is the difference between the Cumulative total invested and the Market value
MyTime wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 7:31 am Cumulative total invested (投資累計額): 979,190 円
This is the total amount of all contributions you have made so far at Y12,000 per month

The gain is indeed about 90% of the amount invested, but the Investment Yield is calculated as the Internal Rate of Return on the assets

12,000 invested at 17.90 % for say 36 months
12,000 invested at 17.90 % for 35 months
12,000 invested at 17.90 % for 34 months
...
12,000 invested at 17.90 % for 1 month
12,000 invested at 17.90 % for 0 months

so includes consideration for the amount of time each 12,000 was actually invested

The actual yeild for each individual Y12,000 will be different, but the average is 17.90%

Incidentally, you can probably increase your contributions to Y20,000 per month in the new year.

Thanks for that. I understood what each of the figures were, just not how the yield is calculated. I think I more or less have it now, though. I sometimes have a bit of a mental block when it comes to number-crunching.

Yes, been looking forward to that!
