this is the best investment out there for expat brits and i thank all on here who pushed me in its direction..
i backpaid class 3 for about 15yrs worth . was for reasons unclear accepted this yr for class 2 payments and the joy is unlimited..
i was very slow in doing this-but luckily didnt affect me as I could backpay so much-
im not keen on filling out paperwork etc but it is very easy...the only thing that is a pain is waiting so long for them to reply by mail..
very old school communication system

i would advise anyone to apply asap i dont see how this can last forever ...

If i was the chancellor, this would be on my hit list for a bump. Maybe theyve done the math and they get more in than they actually pay out.

It can all be done online now! Quite a recent change.

Definitely not. This is a massive giveaway to us expats.

Well, I agree totally.Which made me think...why they didn't raise it.( I was trying to give HMRC the benefit of the doubt above.) :D
Let hope the chancellor over looks this. but as you say, its such a massive give away. makes you wonder. ( although I'm not complaining).

I guess the difference between the time of paying NICs (now) and the pension payout (sometime in the future, an average of a couple of decades away) might have a little bit to do with this. Politicans generally don't care about problems that present themselves a long time after they've left office.

LOL....on a serious note-very thankful to all on here that helped me with getting this- i would never have known about it without you..
thus,i am of course delighted to offer help to anyone who needs it in their quest for the holy pension grail.

think mine was rather by chance as after paying all my back years at class 3 i was stopped from future yrs and told to apply again for reasons unclear.
when doing this i mentioned that had been paying class 3 but thought i should have been class 2 (even though i had been rejected prev for perfectly valid reasons) .. i did this out of hope not out of any expectation but it worked!!!!

as far as i understand from that thread-seems no imminent changes/abolishment risk?would be just my luck if they did abolish it after i was finally accepted!maybe that was the devious plan from the start!
