Inheritance tax webinar for Brits

Post by KyushuWoozy »

Saw this on British expats in Japan Facebook group, sounds very worthwhile:

Date for your Diary:

Due to the recent interest in the group regarding UK inheritance tax, I have lined up a Webinar on Wednesday September 27th at 7pm JST for an hour. Our speaker will be a highly experienced UK-based specialist in inheritance tax planning who works for the independent financial advisory firm, Ascot Lloyd in London.

This Webinar is free to attend and may be useful for those who will inherit from a UK-domiciled parent or individual in the future, or who need to plan for their own estate in the future.

I am trying to find a speaker to talk about the Japanese side of IHT and this will also be included if we are able, or this may be a separate Webinar in the future.

An event will be created on the BEIJ page shortly, where you can click to attend if interested.

I think the British side of the equation is quite straight forward. It’s the Japanese side most Brits in Japan would appreciate some guidance on.

I don't know... the more I look into the UK side the more complicated it gets. It seems you can increase the basic £325,000 tax-free threshold to £1,000,000 if you claim transferred NRB and RNRB from the time your parent's spouse died. And even if your parent sold their house before they died, in order to downsize or go into care, you can still claim some RNRB. If the webinar covers things like that then it would be well worth attending. Unfortunately I have to work that evening so can't attend.

Here are some links to the above if anyone's interested:

I haven't specifically asked for permission to share this, but the team at British Expats in Japan FB page seem just as chilled as we are here, so I'm assuming it's okay.
