Hi, this is a very broad question, but I was just wondering what happens if there is a major hack of a brokerage or bank, including user accounts?
How are investors compensated in cases where the hacking was no fault of the investor?
I think this may cover banks, although I am not sure

But for brokerages, I think the JIPF system only protects investors when their assets are not kept separate from the brokerage's and the brokerage goes bankrupt.

Does anyone know which laws require banks and brokerages to compensate us if their cyber defenses were deemed in appropriate?
What happens in cases where cyber defenses are deemed appropriate by normal standards, but but the level of attack was of unprecedented sophistication? - Shoganai?!

Re: Compensation for hacking of brokerages and banks
Any hack that directly or indirectly hurts my assets in a brokerage or bank.
It is a deliberately open-ended question as I don't know what the risks are, or how we are protected against them.
