Agreed, this is a great idea. Might also be prudent to add a final message to that locked/old board, linking people to the new board.
Not sure we need to lock anything either. Hopefully it will be fairly intuitive.
Agree locking is not helpful when something is still a valid topic of discussion. It also results in people starting new threads to comment because they can't post in the appropriate place.

This is an issue though. I wonder if you can do the equivalent of a sticky/pin, but inside every thread for a topic?
