Using Rakuten Mastercard on Amazon.co.jp now gives 0.2% points

Post by zeroshiki »

I just got the email from Rakuten. Using a Mastercard on Amazon.co.jp now gives 1 point per 500 yen purchase starting January. An 80% nerf from what it usually was. I assume its because Amazon charges them more for Mastercard or something. VISA, JCB, Amex not affected.

Brutal, might as well get the Amazon Card itself. It's free now and earns you more points. I have both and use the Amazon card more to be honest, I dislike Rakuten's website.

Rakuten is still useful for buying stuff from Ichiba because of the bonuses and the Rakuten ecosystem but they seriously are making it harder and harder to justify staying with them. On kakaku, Rakuten isn't even considered the top card anymore.

I still say if you are using Amazon, get the free Amazon card.

I agree on that, maybe I should apply an amazon credit card :lol:

but if your still in the rakuten ecosystem, maybe making a visa one might help, I have both :lol:
right now, I need to transfer my utility bills to my visa card

Both is best! :lol:

I have;
Rakuten Card (free) - (For Tsumitate) - Quickpay
Amazon Prime Card (free) - (Only For Amazon) - ID pay
SMBC NL GOLD (5000 yen) - (For Tsumutate and 5% points at conbinis) - Visa touch/iD
Suica View (Family Card through wife, 500 yen) - Suica Pay

I mostly use the SMBC or JR cards.

I just took a quick look at this, if 1M is spent in a year, the card will be free from the following year on? :shock:
通常 5,500円(税込)
年間100万円のご利用で翌年以降の年会費永年無料
that sounds similar to epos (except they're unclear in term of actual condition) and their point is kind of crap. But for this smbc, the 5% point on konbini seems tempting...
