Appliance repairs

Post by TJKansai »

Got an emergency message our 13 year old washing machine wouldn't drain.
Got home and was warned a new one needed to be purchased THE NEXT DAY if I couldn't fix it that night.

Did some searching in English and had hits in Arabic/Hindi etc...no dice.

Searched in Japanese and found a guy who had a dozen people commenting on how his method fixed the problem.

I followed the instructions the next morning and bingo, problem solved, ¥80,000 not spent (at least for now).

Turns out a small spring, with hooks on either end, controls the drain pump. One of the hooks had broke, but by stretching the remaining part and bending it I could make another hook.

This wasn't even Youtube, but just a household DIY site he has set up.

I have a 42" Panasonic Plasma 1080HD TV I bought for the 2010 Soccer World Cup...
Since about 6yrs ago, every 8months or so, a vertical line will start to appear where all the colours are off and it gets progressively worse over time... A bit like this image...

Turns out, after finding some blog post by a guy fixing his own TV, all that is required is you (unplug the power,) remove about a zillion screws and make note of where they went. Take the back panel off without slashing your hands on the razor sharp metal. Find the corresponding ribbon, unscrew it, give the connections a good vacuum, and voilà! No having to splurge ¥¥¥ on another TV!

I actually just found a video of the exact process... This is 100% what I have to do every 8 months or so...
Bit of a pain, but I now have the whole ordeal down to about 20~30mins.
