FIRE Blog

Post by lyd »

Hi, I'm new to the forum but have been a reader of Retire Japan for a few years now. I started my own FIRE blog in Japan just last year. I would appreciate it if you could have a quick read or leave any comments on the blog. Of course, please share your experience as well if you are in Japan and trying to become financially independent. Here it is: http://expatcanadianintokyo.com/

Thanks!

You're on our website list :)

Also, you must be able to do better than 1500 yen an hour teaching English. My wife's school pays part-time teachers 3,000 yen a class.

I love to see stuff like this! Very informative.
:D

Portfolio

Q 1. Why dividend stocks and American ETFs? Why not by the S&P500 with Emaxis Slim, and avoid paying tax on dividends?

Q2. You portfolio seems like Bens/Retire Japans before his simplications. Any misgivings considering his reflections?

Q3 I see you mention Nisa, but no Ideco?

Q4. Could you give us a ballpark for your age and martial status? It helps put the portfolio in perspective.

.................

Website

1. It seems to load a bit slow.

2. Consider adding the latest blog entry to the landing page, so people do not click over.

3. Consider an infinite scroll approach instead of separate tiles.

expatcanadian.tokyo domain is still available ;-)

It's funny that .com has come to mean "thing at the end of website name" when it was originally supposed to mean "commercial entity".

If you can handle Japanese docs, a Japanese host might be cheaper/faster than Bluehost when accessed from Japan (somebody else here might read this advice too 👋😄)

Hey I am interested in your blog. However, when I click on the link, there are no entries. Just the intro. Maybe it's just me but where can I find the actual blog entires?

I've tried the above links, and seem to only get an initial splash page--no clue how to navigate to anything else from there. I've tried hovering the cursor over most everything, and nada.

The last/final link just above, gets me to a page-not-found page...

Thanks for the link. I can start reading some of the posts but I can't find the comment section to leave comments or contact the blogger about anything. Kinda weird. Thanks again!

Just scroll down and you’ll see posts.

Click on “uncategorized” at the bottom. It should launch the April 2022 portfolio update. The page likely won’t load correctly so click the image of the ca$h to make the full page load. Scroll to the very bottom and there is a place to make a comment! Huzzah!

Am I confident they’ll get that message? No. Not really.
Am I deeply regretting stepping in as the unpaid intern for expatcanadianintokyo? Yes. Very much so.

But as can’t wax lyrical about arbitrage I help out where i can. Often doing more harm than good.
Now. If you excuse me. Someone has a browser compatibility issue over at Norwegianexpatinbudapest.org
