Extract PayPay Data for Tax Purposes

Post by glimmer »

I'm a MoneyForward Cloud (Business) user currently preparing my 2021 tax returns. I've been informed that PayPay's data cannot be linked to MoneyForward, which is a major frustration. MoneyForward can link to 2,444 financial institutions, so the omission of PayPay is a major letdown. I've increasingly used my PayPay account for business expenses due to its convenience, but now I'm regretting it. When I used my debit card instead, ironically PayPay Bank, the system easily linked to MoneyForward and listed all transactions.

I'm wondering if other PayPay users have encountered this issue, and what workarounds you've devised? I don't believe that I can login to PayPay on a desktop computer to download my data as a CSV or PDF. The data seems to be only accessible on a smartphone, and therefore limited to viewing only within an app. I guess my solution for now will be to use the paper receipts I received. I believe they were usually given even with a PayPay transaction.

I'm beginning to wonder whether PayPay's business model is funded by churning and selling user data to third party advertisers. Perhaps this may explain why the company has created a virtual silo of user data, which it will never share with other companies. And this is how they're able to fund this massive operation under the guise of "free." Speculation on my part.

Japanese bloggers agree with your frustration - https://news.cardmics.com/entry/paypay-rireki-pc/

However, it seems that all this is possible with a business account. - https://paypay.ne.jp/help-merchant/B0058/
