Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has ever gone through the process of trademarking a company name or logo here?
There are a lot of online services, but the ones I found charge between ¥80,000 - ¥100,000 (I'm guessing for lawyer fees).
I read you can do it yourself through the Japan Patent Office for about ¥40,000.
Has anyone tried this?
Is it even necessary for a sole-proprietor?

Re: Trademarks
Hello,
I trademarked my company logo for the USA and I used a lawyer to do it. It cost about $1600 to start the process. Extra amendments were needed to get the final approval and they were charged at $400/hour. I don't think I would have been able to get it done by myself as parts of the application were quite technical. It is necessary if you think you need it to protect your business.

Re: Trademarks
I was a sole proprietor for eight years, and have had a kabushiki kaisha for ten years (so far) after that. Never have I trademarked my name or logo, and never has it been an issue.
