Index fund stocks and compound interest examples
Almost anything you read about investing (at least at my n00b level) invariably contains an example of how compound interest works wonders. For example (based on momentary googling): https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/compoundinterest.asp https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/compound-interest/...

Inflation and retirement planning in Japan
This question might be too much even for the "for Dummies" section, but here goes. All articles or advice about retirement planning seem to assume inflation is a thing. Phrases like "$1,000 today is not $1,000 ten years from now" abound. The quest seems to be to find investments ...

Re: Simple Investing Advice?
Don't waste time trying to learn about investing. Stop trying to penetrate the seemingly impenetrable sites. Investing is dead easy, as Kanto stated above. All the advice you need is there. Figure out (once) how to push the "purchase" button for those products, and then repeat every month...

Re: What if online broker disappears?
Thanks all. :) Your investments are held in your name. e.g. Shares or Mutual Fund units you hold. I suspect there would need to be a process to move those to another brokerage. This is the topic I mainly had in mind when I wrote the post. I wouldn't know where to start, or even who to contact. For s...

What if online broker disappears?
I've been investing in Monex for the past 5 years, a combination of index fund ETFs, some company stocks, and a Maxis Slim mutual fund. Also some JPY and USD cash in the account. Completely hypothetical (for now, at least :?), but what would I do if they went bankrupt, or offline for some reason or ...

Re: Lost access to NISA on Monex?
Thanks guys. In case it's helpful to the next poor soul who needs it, here is how to find your NISA stocks (at least as of this time, 2021/1/4). 1. Mouse-over "保有残高・口座管理" on the top navigation bar. 2. The resulting menu will contain, among other things, an item itself (again) named "保...

Lost access to NISA on Monex?
I've had a Monex account for a few years, and a NISA account inside that. I have investments in that NISA part. It's been a long time since I logged in to Monex. I remember in the past, to go to NISA there was another layer of logging in. However now when I go to NISA I only see links to apply to jo...

Re: MONEX is crap **Avoid**
I've logged in and I'm looking at my account now. My name is registered as [katakana last name] [space] [katakana first name] [space] [katakana middle name], so it's definitely possible. Are you using a full width space? Exactly same here on Monex. Katakana, in that order, with full-width spaces. I...

Re: good news for Vanguard "range" of ETFs
The article mentions wanting to create funds with no management costs. I mean that's great, but what then is the incentive for the fund manager? What are they getting out of this? Maybe they're just paid a good salary to do their fund management work? (I don't know much about this stuff at all, jus...
