Thanks for the fast response!
Would I have to convert the amount to yen for the Japanese tax return? If so, which date would I use for the exchange rate?

UK Income
I have a question about income generated in the UK. If this has been asked before can someone point me to the relevant post. I have a flat in the UK that I rent out and usually I remit the money to Japan and declare it on my tax return. This year, I'm planning on leave the money in my UK bank to use...

Re: Flying with two passports
Well, it's certainly easier now. When I first came here you needed to get a reentry visa stamped in your passport that was only valid for 1 year, and you had to go to an immigration office to get it.

Re: Flying with two passports
Don't think I have ever been asked coming back. They need to ask on the way out if you want to use the one year return system. Not sure if they check if you have a reentry permit -it's been a while. I was asked for mine this year and it was scanned with a reader.I thought the zairyu card now functi...

Re: Flying with two passports
Thanks for the fast response Tkydon. I think most tourists will have a return ticket out of Japan so he'll probably have to show his passport. I always have to show my resident card to check-in staff when I fly back to Japan, they never assume I'm just a tourist. I Last time I went to the UK I comp...

Re: Travel insurance recommendation?
Restarting this thread as I'm going back to the UK next week and would appreciate any advice. Tabiho was being recommended for insurance, but I can't fit my name in the application- two middle names and a longish surname. Has anybody else had the same problem? Are there any other travel insurance re...

Re: For Brits: it's time to vote
Mine just arrived today. I was wondering though: did anybody add "UK" to the return envelope? I'm not entirely convinced the Japan postal service will know "Grande-Bretagne".

Re: Elementary School Public or Private Japanese School
In my case, my son went to the local public junior high school. It was not a great school, but our priority was for him to go where most of his friends from elementary school were going and where we felt he would be happiest, rather than what was educationally best for him. When I was his age, I wen...

Re: UK tax return 3rd party provider
I've used @@@Filer from the HMRC website for the last 4 years and they've been fine. Cost is £20. The only problem I've had is that you can't attach multiple pdfs -you have to join them together in one attachment. I don't know if that's the same with the other sites.

Just had a letter from HMRC informing me of the new rates of Class 2 contributions for 2024 - £3.45 weekly.
