UK tax return 3rd party provider

Post by katem »

I moved to Japan last year and, as I am no longer resident in the UK, will not be able to use HMRC’s online portal to submit a 23-24 tax return. It seems I can do this by paper form (which has to be requested from HMRC) or use a third party software provider. I looked at a couple of providers, namely 123-efiling (£15) and Taxd (£90). Has anyone had experience of using 123-efiling / Taxd or got any recommendations for a service provider that they use instead?

I've used @@@Filer from the HMRC website for the last 4 years and they've been fine. Cost is £20. The only problem I've had is that you can't attach multiple pdfs -you have to join them together in one attachment. I don't know if that's the same with the other sites.

I used them several years ago for a straightforward return and it went smoothly.

Like the original poster, I will be filing a UK tax return for 23-24 (for the first time ever). Could I ask the original poster which, if any, of the providers mentioned in this thread you went for and how the experience has been?

In the end I used abc self assessment. I think the reason I chose them was because I liked being able to fill in and save the form locally on my computer before submitting to HMRC. Also when I contacted the company a couple of times by email, I received prompt and helpful responses on both occasions. The process was a very similar experience to using the HMRC portal.
