Re: Simple Q&A - iDeCo

Ouch I see, in that case the ideco is useless for her then.
NISA account creation is in the work indeed, since the benefit is about not paying capital gain/dividend tax I guess there is at least an incentive here.

Re: Simple Q&A - iDeCo

Hi there, question on spouse Ideco. I opened my account a few months ago with SBI, no problem. Now I would like to open also an account for my wife (non JP and unemployed), couple of clarifications would be helpful! 1/ Will she need her own bank account, or can I link her Ideco account to mine (she ...

Re: Simple Q&A - iDeCo

Thank you all for your answers. Very helpful! I'll try to open an account ASAP today then, already lost quite a bit of time! Is there a source that lists the funds available on the most popular platforms? So far only found comparison of the quantity of funds. One additional thing I'd like to ask. My...

Re: Simple Q&A - iDeCo

Hey there, finally planning to start my Ideco/Nisa. Regarding the Ideco allowance, is it retroactive? E.g. if I worked and paid taxes in Japan for a shortwhile before starting my Ideco, can I make a larger first payment than the max of my monthly allowance? Also I hear everyone recommend Monex/Rakut...

Re: To buy or not to buy, that is my question.

Well, we can quickly run the OP’s numbers, throw in a couple assumptions, and do a simple comparison: You actually got me curious on rent trends, don't they ever increase? I felt it was a tad too conservative in your calculation to assume the rent would stay flat at 1.8man for 10 years, but I haven...

Re: Using Firstrade for non-US investor, what's around the corner?

Thanks a lot for your answer!! In the meantime I managed to do a bit of research, I also cashed out 100 bucks from Firstrade to see what happens 1. Indeed FT takes $35 per transfer, it seems (while IBKR would be free once a month) - not to concerned here, as I don't plan to transfer money in the nex...

Using Firstrade for non-US investor, what's around the corner?

Hi there! Sorry for the dumb question. EU citizen, I started investing in ETF via Firstrade - long term play. I tried with $10k to see how it works, and now feel comfortable putting more of my savings in (i.e. ~100-200k). The firs steps process were very easy. But want to make sure I'm covered in th...

Re: Dumb question on Furusato-nouzei

Sharing an update in case someone ends in a similar situation: it depends store by store. After checking each store: I had the same issue with 3 stores, one of them would send a 2021 certificate, the 2 others will send a 2020 certificate. Two other stores I ordered with no payment issues also confir...

Re: Dealing with uncertainty

Would welcome any thoughts. Please be patient as I am still learning the ropes of personal finance. Welcome to the forum! This is what it is for, so everyone will be nice 8-) To answer some of your questions, if you leave Japan permanently you will likely be asked to close all your bank and broker ...

Dumb question on Furusato-nouzei

Hi there! Tried buying stuff on Furusato Nozei for the the first time. Placed all orders last week on the 31st. One of the payment for an order I made on Rakuten bounced back. Apparently I reached a debit card limit last month. Rakuten is asking me to confirm or provide another card number. If I do ...
