Has anyone here on the forum created a NPO?
Would they be willing to talk about their experience doing so and why they did? I believe Hokkaido Wilds had a blog post from 2019 about their experience, but I would be curious for anyone having done so post-pandemic (so 2023 or later).

Re: Dividend Retirement Question
And Stark also answered the question about: what happens if you brokerage is overseas? In that case, things are a bit simpler, because you don't have a choice regarding whether to declare the dividends. The only choice you need to make in that situation is whether to subject the dividends to flat-ra...

Re: Dividend Retirement Question
Stark provided some responses on the reddit thread, and I wanted to add that information here for other US citizens who were interested in this topic. Is that consistent whether you earn 1M in dividends or 40M in dividends? It depends how you choose to declare your dividends. If the dividends were p...

Dividend Retirement Question
Cross-posting my question from the JapanFinance reddit This question is for US citizens retiring in Japan; so assume you have permanent residency. For anyone retired and living solely off dividends, Japan's tax rate is the 20.315% flat rate. Is that consistent whether you earn 1M in dividends or 40M...

Re: Get your credit score in Japan
I remember from your blog post, one of the comments says the CIC and JICC pull from the same database? Any idea if that is still correct? I still think we should get all 3 as you suggest for comparison.RetireJapan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 4:42 am First (inexpensive) step might be to get a copy of all three reports and see what they say?

Re: Get your credit score in Japan
I got 2 of my credit reports and one of my wife's after we were knocked back for a home loan from rakuten after passing the initial screening. Wanted to see if there was anything strange showing up ... there wasn't. Hi Tony (and hopefully Ben jumps in), I seem to be in a similar situation. For the ...

I will also give my vote for Moneytree being very straightforward to use and track spending.

Re: Inflation and retirement planning in Japan
I think it is also important to note that being a foreigner in Japan (even in retirement) usually means you have some connections overseas. Whether that is parents, siblings, or children. One thing I discovered during the pandemic last year was how much prices had increased when I had to purchase ti...

Re: Contractor vs Self-Employed vs Sole Proprietor
So, in summary, it's annoyingly simple and I have overthought it! And in essence, I don't need to do anything different to what I'm already doing. Posting just in case this is useful for anyone else, but the usual caveats apply - this is what one person at the tax office said and it's my understand...
