Hi,

A couple of Qs on receiving national pension overseas.

1) Does the government pay national pension payments to overseas accounts?
2) If yes, then are there any criteria required in order to receive the payments?

Thks

I believe it does. They even made a stylish leaflet for people interested in claiming from abroad: https://www.nenkin.go.jp/international/ ... eaflet.pdf

If it’s the UK, same would apply I think. Payable anywhere but not updated annually.

I’m referring to the whether the Japanese government is able to pay 国民年金 (kokumin nenkin) to an overseas account?
Regarding any criteria to be eligible, about 15 years ago a financial advisor here once told me that if you were a property owner in Japan you would not be eligible to receive such payments, yet I’ve never seen such information.
Hope that clarifies.

About two years ago I consulted the Japanese pension ofice and they said they can pay the pension to international banks (and that we are still eligible to receive it even after leaving Japan).
