IDECO and Divorce

I know this isn't a subject anyone really likes to talk about, but this is Japan after all, and many marriages do sadly fall apart.
So I was wondering if god forbid a couple did divorce what would actually happens to the assets in the IDECO, is the IDECO ring fenced for the individual, or is this split between the couple? I think this question will become more relevant as young people will be encouraged to take this out, maybe before they get married, and what's more if it is locked until you hit retirement does this mean they'll be an ex partner asking for their money in 30+ years time? Some one you dont wish to see, or you actually have a second family to look after with your IDECO.

I personally think it should be an individual thing and is each persons responsibility, especially since I think the gov will make this a requirement in the future.
Any thoughts or experiences?

Japan doesn't really have joint accounts, so iDeCo belongs to an individual. It may be taken into account in divorce, but only in terms of calculating any settlements.

I believe divorcing spouses can have claim to nenkin though, so I may be wrong...

What would happen in the case of the death of one of the spouses before they had cashed in their IDECO? I know with the state pension you can claim half, but with your own self-financing pension?

I thought this may be the case, with the emphasis on "MAY BE".Japan may have some quirky law tucked away.EG assets before marriage, and assets AFTER marriage.
