Need help understanding dividends in Japan

Hello,
I'm new to investing this last year,
opened a account with Rakuten, and bought stock in the Rakuten VTI rapper, 楽天・全米株式インデックス・ファンド(楽天・バンガード・ファンド(全米株式)). Selected the option to auto reinvest dividend inside the NISA account.
Looking at the regular VTI stock history, it pays dividends 4 times a year roughly, and the last one was dec 30th.
Nothing showed up for us, so when we check the history of the rakuten vti fund, it shows it calculates dividends once a year in July and hasn't actually paid any dividends for 3 years.
How exactly does this work? Am I using the wrong fund? Does the dividend payout for the same fund in America simply disappear in Japan?
My wife is Japanese, she read over everything and cant figure it out either.
