I remember a while back Retire Japan giving a list of taxes in Japan that could be paid credit card. I remember Sales tax being one of them, (as in being a school having to collect it on behalf of students) Anyway they told me at the tax office that you can only pay it by credit card if you go on their webpage. Does anyone know the webpage for this? (Even my accountant did not know this !!) Also what are the other taxes that can be paid by credit card? Sales tax is my biggest tax bill, so would like to get the airmiles on the credit card for it.

There are different sites for different kind of taxes, and can vary by jurisdiction. Some of them may not even allow credit card payments. Keep in mind that typical charges by the tax agency for using a credit card is around 0.8-0.9%. Unless your credit card is earning you rewards at a higher rate, it probably would not make sense.

The National income tax site is here - https://kokuzei.noufu.jp/
Similarly the Tokyo government site with list of taxes allowed is here - https://zei.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/welcome
Another option is to register your card in Yahoo and check if Yahoo supports that tax payment - https://koukin.yahoo.co.jp/

Check how your credit card company will treat the transaction. If they regard it as a cash transaction you may have to pay extra fees and might not get points.

It does make it clear when you pay that there are some charges.
