So this is a Japanese govt thing? Is it reliable?

It looks more an investment thing than a guaranteed pension dealie?

I'm not a gambler. Nor am I any way attuned to the world of financial investment. I have a long-term mortgage investment thing back home that's been chugging along accruing interest but that just sits there, i don't fiddle with it.

This ideco part scares me;
Participants are personally responsible for the investment of their assets. The benefits they receive will vary, depending on the performance of their investments.

Investment products include products that do not have guaranteed principals. Select products based on a solid understanding of potential risks and benefits.

It's an investment account like the 401k in the US. You can put in money and choose where it gets invested. The government gives you a tax break.
