Finally ready to sign up. Based on what I've read here:

1. There's no reason not to choose Rakuten or SBI

2. Both have what I'm looking for: worlwide (excluding Japan) developed and developing passive funds with lowest fees

3. Both are managed online but only SBI has some English interface

My business account is with Rakuten so I'll probably choose SBI. Anything else I need to know?

Sounds about right. You can get Rakuten points using Rakuten, and I think SBI might have something similar.

I also like to split my accounts among providers, to reduce institutional risk. We have SBI, Rakuten, and Monex accounts for my wife and I.

Thanks Ben. I'm trying to declutter my life so think I'll just go with SBI for iDeCo snd Rakuten for business. If I'm lucky enough to ever get above the 10 million guaranteed by the government I'll think again.

I don't think there's much reason to be paranoid about provider risk!

Just doing some research for a friend.

It seems neither Rakuten nor SBI (nor ironically MUFJ who run the fund) provide my preferred fund, eMaxis Slim All Country, instead preferring their own inferior options that wrap up US ETFs.

However, Monex do provide it, so although I use SBI myself I'll probably be recommending Monex for iDeco to my friend.

I have a taxable account with Monex and I'm pretty happy with them in terms of customer service, etc. 100% in eMaxis Slim all-country

That is exactly the reason why I let my wife sign up for iDeco at Monex.

Rakuten iDeCo has an all Country Vanguard fund that tracks VT. It is a good option.

eMaxis Slim All Country is available in Nisa with Rakuten though.

I did see that thread previously, I thought you concluded that in the long run Rakuten VT was cheaper? However, was that before the existence of the Emaxis Slim fund?

I am interested as I am at 85%VT in my iDeco, and 80% Emaxis All Country in my Nisa.
