Specifically, does anyone run a multi-unit rental?
Currently, my wife's family has a small rental building in one of the suburbs of Tokyo. It's quite old so the options are to either renovate or sell it. If they decide to sell then they're considering buying another building that would have a owner's unit where we would move in to. So we would be taking over running the building for them. We'd be looking at buildings with at least 2 rental units and the owner's unit. Location target is somewhere in the 23 wards, probably Setagaya.
I've noticed this kind of building is pretty rare in Japan. One realtor said it'd be relatively unpopular since no one would want to live in the same building as the "owner" Any thoughts?
Also, does anyone have any experience running multi-unit rentals here? I'm looking for any advice, experience and problems people have had. Thanks.
