Is 厚生年金 not paid if you continue working?
Is 厚生年金 not paid if you continue working?
Recently received my Japanese pension statement (ねんきん定期便) and was reminded again that of the two components the basic pension (基礎年金) is much smaller than the welfare pension (厚生年金). When I asked at the pension office a year ago they seemed to say that although there is no means test for receiving either pension, if I continued to work after 65 I would not receive 厚生年金. Is that correct or have I misunderstood?

I may be wrong but I assume that 厚生年金 won't pay if you're still working and contributing to it. 厚生年金 can be delayed beyond 65 so makes sense that it wouldn't be claimale while still accumulating.
If you worked in a role that didn't pay into kousei nenkin then i assume you'd be able to claim it, although if you claimed your pension and received salary you're likely to have a tax hit
