Thanks!
Does anyone know if I can request a copy of the Kakutei Shinkoku Tax Return guide printed in English? My city used to send one to me every year, but have now stopped (perhaps due to my change in resident status, perhaps as a cost cutting exercise). Certainly none are laid out at the tax ofice for collection with all other forms.

You can go to the Local National Tax Office, where you would file your Kakutei Shinkoku, and you should be able to pick one up there in early to mid January. Printed copies will not be available until then.Seasider4374 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:59 am Thanks!

Re: 2024 Income Tax Guide for Kakutei Shinkoku Now Available
great, thanks.
I bought a car last year and as a sole proprietor I use it for businesss though also personal use. I usually claim 70% of car costs (gas, repairs etc) as part of my necessary expenses. It's been a while since I had any large items to add to my necessary expenses but I remember something about assets costing over Y100,000 having to be depreciated over the estimated life of the asset. I can't find the relevant information now though can anyone remind me, or point me in the direction to, the way of calculating this and how to enter this on my Kakutei Shinkoku form?

after doing some more digging I think I've answered my own question. The now defunkt Gaijintax.com site is still accessible through the internet archive and the relevant information is there. I will go down to the local tax office and double check it's still correct and also find out over how many years I should depreciate the car.

If you are running a business, it may benefit you to apply for permission to submit a Blue Tax Return - 青色申告青色申告決算書 instead of a White Tax Return.JosefK wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 8:47 am great, thanks.

You can do this before actually submitting the return. Ask when you visit the Tax Office.
You would then provide Business Accounts with assets, income, liabilities, and expenses, giving you the ability to claim more expenses...
You might need the assistance of a Zeirishi, at least for the first year to understand how to put that together
Some (not all) of the guides and Form.

Bedtime reading... I am glad I use the services of an accountant.
Although I am determined to get my 国民健康保険料 reduced this year. This is more challenging that my income and municipal taxes.
Answers on a postcard please.....
