I have recently handed in my notice at work and will be moving on to a new career.
I've heard that I'll be able to sign on at Hello Work after a three month wait. Does anyone have experience of the process?

Kind of. I went to the trouble of registering when I lost my job, but then got part time work so didn't bother claiming the benefits.

You don't register after three months, your payments start after three months. I would go and register now, to make sure you have everything in order.

If you left work of your own volition, then you have to wait 3 months.

If you were made redundant due to the circumstances of your employer, you are entitled to sign on immediately.
There is then a 21 day wait, during which time you have to attend a lecture, and then you will receive your first Hello Work Payment, and then every 28 days until your entitlement (number of days) runs out.

If you find work before your entitlement runs out, you can apply for a Hiring Bonus from Hello Work of (I think) 70% of you outstanding entitlement (Number of days x 70% of Daily Rate).

It was changed to 2 months of wait (well, technically 7 days + 2 months) instead of the 3 months wait, as long as you don't use it more than twice within 5 years. From the 3rd time, the wait is 3 months (7 days + 3 months).

If you lost your job because your employer did not renew your contract or you were dismissed, there is a 7 day wait after signing on. You initially have to declare you have no work, but later you can work part-time while signing on and you don't need to declare earnings, just days worked. For example, if you declare you worked four days a month when you sign on, you won't receive unemployment benefit for those four days and the days are added on to the end of you claim, so you will still qualify for the same number of days of unemployment benefit. Although, there is a one-year limit for benefit payments and any remaining days will not be paid after this period.

I'm not sure how many days you are allowed to work during your unemployment benefit period. Does anyone know?

Actually, I decided to quit after 16 years at the same company in order to make a career change. A big risk but I had been coasting for a while and I want to do something I feel passionate about
