I need some confirmation about sending a cheque for NIC by post. …
The postal address on the wiki doesn’t match the address here:
https://www.gov.uk/pay-voluntary-class- ... ce/by-post
So I am wondering if anyone has successfully sent a cheque to the 5BD address.
Also, as I do not have an 18 digit reference number, will writing my Nat Insurance number suffice?
I tried calling the +44 161 931 9070 number to confirm these points, but alas although I was able to get through to someone when I called in Feb, when I tried yesterday I was thrown into an endless loop of hell without a human in sight
Sending voluntary NIC by cheque
Re: Sending voluntary NIC by cheque
Just pay with bank transfer. If you don’t have a UK bank, you can use Wise UK borderless account.

Re: Sending voluntary NIC by cheque
I still pay by cheque with one that was sent out from Lloyds about 10 years ago. During Covid they said they wouldn't take cheques for NICs but they have restarted. However, they do not take cheques for income tax from the online tax return. They will not allow you to complete the tax return until they have your bank information and a date when the income tax will be transferred.
Re: Sending voluntary NIC by cheque
OK, I called a different number, and after a long wait got through to a human. I now know:
The address.
The payee.
Hat must be written on the back of the cheque.
If anyone cares to know this info, please let me know - and I will post it here. But please don’t lecture me about paying online. Some people need to pay by cheque (for whatever private reasons we have!).

Re: Sending voluntary NIC by cheque
This is for class 3 NIC, but I suppose it would be the same for class 2.
Make the cheque payable to:
HM Revenue and Customs
Send to:
National Insurance Contributions and Employer Office
HM Revenue and Customs
BX5 5BD
On the back write:

- name
address
NI number
the NIC years being paid for
if you want a receipt
if not already on the front of the cheque, write account number and sort code

Re: Sending voluntary NIC by cheque
Just curious, but why the love of cheques?
There is a distinct possibility that this form of payment will not be available for too much longer.
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.
