When talking about investing in Japan, is there any limitation or laws I need to be aware of? Just being careful to avoid 'accidental' deportation

I'm not aware of any nationality based restrictions, apart from the usual 'US citizens are prevented from doing a lot of things because of the US government's insane tax laws' :)

Are you a US citizen? If yes, go to 2)
If not, are you a resident of Japan?
If so, there are no restrictions I know of.

2) there are many restrictions, all due to US tax policy. You can basically only buy single Japanese stocks. We recommend using an existing US broker account, or opening a new one with Interactive Brokers.
