Internet Service Providers advice

Apologies if I missed an existing thread on this; I could not find one in my search. I am considering moving from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps which will mean switching from Sonet to (possibly) Softbank. Does anyone have experience or advice on switching to and using a 10 Gbps ISP?
If I understand correctly our current set-up uses a modem from NTT East so the physical line is from NTT but our ISP is Sonet. They've been okay so far but we are having trouble getting wifi throughout our 3 story house and have been told we can't just get additional repeaters for our existing Apple router because they aren't compatible with Apple and Apple is no longer in this space. I didn't want to just get a new router and additional repeaters which lock us in at our current 1 Gbps since we seem to be becoming heavier users of our bandwidth so I'm trying to make one upgrade once instead of two smaller upgrades over time. My grasp of these technical details is terrible and I've come to this understanding after long visits at Apple, Bic Camera and with the NTT service people who replaced our modem recently. There's a fair chance I have misunderstood something along the way...
