Hello,
A company asked me for my JCT (consumption tax) file number. I haven't heard of this before. Is this a Self-employment thing?
How would I go about finding or getting a JCT (consumption tax) file number?

The rules around invoicing and consumption tax are changing for companies. What this means is that if your clients are companies, they may prefer you to be registered for this.
If you deal with individuals it shouldn't be an issue.

Thank you retireJapan.
I do need to register for this. Has anyone already done this yet?

My understanding is that they will have to pay more consumption tax for dealing with any individuals without the number. So yes, definitely needed by October (?)RetireJapan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 3:02 am

Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.
