One account, but multiple years?

Post by solo7100 »

Hi all,

My understanding is that a person can only have one NISA account in their name.

My question is: if I open a NISA account this year in my name and max it out, then in 2024 when the new NISA comes out, how do I get that NISA? Open another 2024 account, then a 2025 account, etc? Or is it one account over multiple years with they same company?

We have the funds to open an account this year, max it out, then get the 2024 NISA and max it out, hence my question. Also, we are thinking of Rakuten since we are already deep in their ecosystem.

Thanks much,

Your broker will most likely open another year for you automatically unless you tell them not to.

Each NISA account is its own year. You don't have "A" NISA account, you have a 2023 NISA account. The idea of it kinda changes next year with the new NISA system and its infinite tax-free timeline but until this year, that's how you should think of it.

すでにNISA口座(一般NISA・つみたてNISA)を開設済みのお客様におかれましては、新NISAの口座開設手続は不要です。
