Rakuten name issues (bank vs. securities)

Post by Roger Van Zant »

I have a Rakuten bank account and also a Rakuten securities account.
I want to be able to use my Rakuten points earned through shopping etc. for investing.
In order to do so, I have to create a "Money Bridge".
All fine and well.

The issue is that the name used for my bank account and that used for my securities account differ.
It is just a hyphen/space/middle name thing.

Do I change my bank account name to match my securities account name, or vice versa?
Presumably I have to resubmit paper forms and ID photocopies via snail mail again?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, an update:

On the off chance that matters might go smoothly, I called Rakuten....and was pleasantly surprised:

I first called Rakuten securities, and they told me to call Rakuten bank.
I called Rakuten bank and the guy guided me through how to update my name (needed to add my middle name) within my online account.
I was able to enter a space and my middle name in the same cell used for my first name; no separate cell for just "middle name".
Pretty sure I wasn't able to do this when I first signed up back in 2018....hence the current issue.
I had to take a photo of the front and back of my driving license and upload it.
The update process supposedly takes 5-10 working days.

Hopefully, once updated, I will be able to create the Money Bridge without any further hitches.

Hope this information is useful for people in the same position as I was.

That would be me. Thanks for this. Please update when you are able to confirm that this did/didn't work.

Just got an email saying the procedure has been completed.
Sure enough, I just logged in and was able to complete the Money Bridge application.
Very happy!
