Leverage: using box spread loans with N225 options

Post by buckbunny »

I can’t find anybody publicly mentioning using box spreads to get cheaper leverage in the Japanese community, although we do have European-style Nikkei 225 options, brokers offering “basket” orders and several blogs discussing other investing patterns using options.

It's very puzzling to me. A Nikkei 225 option contract’s nominal value is several times larger than my current net worth, so I'd want to make sure nothing weird can happen if I try.

Do you know anybody at all doing box spreads, here? Or, if not, why nobody does?

Margin loans seem just as expensive here as in the US, oddly, so all the more reason to do box spreads given the risk free rate is basically 0%.
