Hello

Bit of a specific question but has anyone successfully added a SMBC Prestia Gold credit card to their Apple Wallet and used it to recharge their Suica/Pasmo?

I can add the card, and I get an email from the bank next day confirming it "Lets go cashless!" but when I try to add money to my on-phone Pasmo it gives an error saying there are no Apple Pay compatible cards on the phone. I can see use it to pay with ID fine (nfc tap and pay) but seemingly just not to recharge my quickly depleting Pasmo

I just tried registering my UK debit card and that worked fine and I could use it to add to Pasmo but obviously this is not the best long term solution...

Firstly, no.
Secondly. Do you remember the plot of Ocean's 11? You do. Excellent. This could come in handy later..
My card Prestia Gold card works with with iD it also works with in App purchases.
I can also see the Suica card in the wallet.
But attempting to charge from Suica from within the wallet gives me the same error you get.

So what I do is open the Suica app itself and recharge from there.
There is a Apple Pay icon which I don't use.
Next to it is a Visa icon for the card I registered directly into the Suica app itself a long while ago.
If I recall correctly, I did this by recruiting a small acrobat from the circus. At least that would have been less complex that what I actually did.
Basically you add the card in the Suica app entering details then name as displayed on the card, from my phone in, FULL WIDTH characters. A perfect match was required. Holding your breath you have to gently caress each letter until the options appear for the different characters, glide along to the one you need without changing the surface pressure. (Safe cracking looks easier.)
And if you fail Andy Garcia beats you up.

For fun*, I just added an SMBC Trust Gold card to the Wallet. That prompted me to physcially phone call them to get it verified for the Wallet! So that's never happening.

In this reddit thread, someone reports the SMBC Prestia Gold... to quote from their website "プレミアムな一枚 "... Card, is still not working as recently as last year..

So I'm not about to delete and reinstall just in case it's fixed.

* That's a lie. None of this is fun. It should just work.

Sir, you are a prince amongst men.

The chances of me wading through the fuckery of double byte katakana requirements to set PASMO up on the off-chance were zero. Nonetheless with your adviceI persisted, screenshotting every page into Google Translate and ploughed with the registration manfully.

Fourteen screenshots later, I successfully added 3,000 yen to my Pasmo directly from my Prestia card in the Pasmo app. Thank you!!!!

And katakana names - how many hours, days, weeks and years worth of lost productivity have been expended on forcing all non-Japanese to use this ridiculous system?
