Switching away from LineMobile

Hi all - I'm a Line Mobile user and have been for the last 3 years but they've been aggressively trying to get me to move to lineMo (since Line Mobile is no longer a service they want to continue). Originally I couldn't be bothered to move since my company pays my bill up to 6000 JPY per month, but I apparently have racked up a bill of more than 30,000 JPY this month by making calls to Rakuten Bank and being left on hold for 5 hours (and they still didn't even pick up...). So now I want to make that move!

I usually pay around 3-4,000 JPY per month. I watch Netflix most days and have never ran out of data on my current 5GB plan (in fact, I have like 30 GB every month from rollovers). LineMo are advertising a 1 year free mini plan (3GB) for users moving from Line Mobile, but I fear 3GB isn't enough, and again, my company will pay up to 6k so it's not the end of the world if it costs a bit. Plus, it's free credit card points for me so why not!

LineMo are also advertising their standard plan for lIne mobile switches of 20 GB a month for 1738 JPY per month for the first year, and then 2728 JPY thereafter. Calls are 22JPY per 30 seconds. This seems great, but ideally I'd be able to get some minutes into the contract too as I frequently make calls.

That being said, I'm a heavy Rakuten user and the idea of additional SPU if I switch to Rakuten is definitely appealing, but I've heard bad things about their coverage etc. As a diamond user there seems to be a decent deal going on (I'm not interested in buying a new phone). Unless I'm mistaking this, it seems that just switching to Rakuten UN-limit VI will give me 23,000 JPY of points. Also if I understand this link correctly, I should be able to get +3 SPU (mobile plan, 誰でも, Diamond) - but please correct me if I'm wrong here. Also 2178 JPY per month for 20 GB/ 3278 JPY for unlimited just seems insane compared to the current market. So please, someone bring my hopes down and tell me what fineprint I'm missing!

You could look into Mineo as well on the AU network. That's what I use but I only have a plan for 1-2 gigs around 1500 per month. If I do calls the bill runs up a little bit.

I heard something about Rakuten mobile like they had a price promotion to suck people into the service and then later raised the price on those customers.

I use UQ which hasn’t been too bad. They seem to have the GB to 15 per month now.

I heard complaints from my students about Rakuten network and getting a signal.

Nice. I had UQ before Mineo and it was still maybe over 2,500 or something for the bill if I recall.
