US paper check

Post by RetireJapan »

Someone just sent me a US paper check (issued by JP Morgan Chase).

What are my options to cash it?

(this is very annoying)

A couple of folk on twitter have tweeted about this in the last few months. Seems it was a bit of a pain, but they could get it done at major banks. Think you need your My Number and am sure there will be plenty of forms!

Thanks! Thinking of going through my UK bank instead. I may blog about it if it is interesting enough (well, by my low standards) ;)

Speaking of UK banks, I just got a letter from mine asking to confirm I was resident in Japan and asking for my My Number (well, it just said TIN, but it's the same thing). Is this the tax sharing info thing ramping up, I wonder?
