property tax

Post by bryanc »

hi,
question about the 固定資産税 property tax..Is this paid by both husband and wife or does it depend on whose name is on the house /land deeds etc?

The 固定資産税 bill is addressed to the registered holder of the 固定資産.

Sorry, I can't help you with that. No experience with jointly held real estate.

The bill has to be paid, and how you settle between joint owners is up to you, the joint owners.

In my case the bill is addressed only to me although my wife is a joint owner (50%) in our home. Not sure why. Maybe because my name appears first in list of registration. Or could be because I am the household head.

Yeah, same here, jointly owned but addressed only to the missus.

No, you have to pay the Fixed Asset Tax (Property Tax) 固定資産税 at the Convenience Store or the bank, or through Easy-Pay.

It is not Income Tax and is not subject to Payroll withholding.
