Vanguard in Japan

I came across this article the other day. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... s-directly

It sounds like Vanguard are considering whether to set up shop in Japan and sell their funds directly to investors here.

I looked at the saison fund mentioned in the article...

.68% costs. Saison is really doing highway robbery just for acting as what I assume is a sales proxy. I can't help but wonder why vanguard partnered with them. The rakuten vanguard fund has done significantly better with rakuten tagging on significantly less(but still more than I would expect a sales proxy to do).

I feel like competition between the main low-cost series(primarily eMaxis slim, tawara, nissei) is pretty good, so vanguard jumping in with even lowering offerings should be interesting... How low can they go!? VT is .1% expenses. And eMaxis slim world-japan is barely above that at .118
