Hello! I've had my Rakuten Bank account approved and got a debit card through the post along with the First Time setup instructions. That's all good and I've competed the setup. But they also sent me a "Security Card" (same size as the debit card and has a grid of codes on the back).

What's it for? Should I put it in my wallet along with the debit card, or lock it away somewhere safe? Thanks.

Its their alternative to the One Time Password (or rather their version of the OTP key) for doing bank transfers. You need it if you want to send money from your Rakuten Bank account.

That analog approach is just so Japanese.

The PostBank has physical electronic tokens, which seem to be a better solution.

I have a physical OTP key (like a calculator) for Prestia. I think Mizuho and SMBC (and presumably MUFJ) can use the app as a OTP key nowadays.

I have that card too. But I have never had to use it. And I have sent money with my card and bank account too. Not sure what the purpose of it is really.
