Pets in no pets apartment

Hey all. Great forum here it’s been interesting reading through all the questions and various advice.
My contribution is this.
What can, and/or is likely to happen, if you get caught with a pet in a no pets allowed apartment? The pet in question is 3 rescue kittens. They are not technically mine (rubbish excuse I know), because they are fostered. Not adopted. But I’m fostering With the view the adopt anyway.
My last apartment allowed pets but only if you paid an extra deposit of ¥75000! Which we didn’t and never said to the landlord. But we have moved into a Danchi and there are signs everywhere saying no pets. We’ve been told my multiple other people we know that loads of people keep pets in no pets apartments and specifically told that they know people keep pets in our Danchi.
So, is it really a problem if it gets kept secret? What could happen/what is likely to happen if we potentially get found out? Would it be a slap on the wrist and pay a fine? Or a warning with a choice to get rid of the pets or move out? And if so how long could they give us to move out? Or would it just be instant eviction?

Most likely consequence if discovered? Non-renewal of your lease and 0 return of cleaning and damage deposit/and or/ automatic large cleaning bill upon moving out.

Possibly - Extra fine levied against you or your guaranteer. Blacklisting from agent and guaranteer.

You cannot "hide" 3 small kittens. They will probably find out. Just be prepared for the consequences.

I don't know the exact consequences, but I wouldn't risk it. Like established said at the very least you would lose any kind of deposit you made, and most likely you would need to pay a large cleaning fee. Also, if they find out about your cats, and you don't know anyone else that can immediately take care of them, you would be in for more trouble.
I too know Japanese that keep small pets in secret, but while they probably could get away with an apology and some polite bows, I'm not so sure that a foreigner would get the same treatment.
Regarding the other questions about eviction, those policies vary according to the agent, building, etc, so I'm not sure how things work in a danchi. Better try to get an official answer.

Although, preferably in such a way that wouldn't immediately blow your cover....

I was in a no pet apartment that had a fire. Upon everyone evacuating there were 5 or 6 people holding onto pets, very obviously breaking the no pet rule. As far as I know nobody ever got in trouble/called out for it, and we even got a free month of rent for the trouble.

Hmmm. I feel like it’s not going to be worth the mental stress. Especially as it’s a Danchi, so government run.
I’ll find another place.

Off topic:
I guess the word danchi has different meanings in different areas of Japan. In Hiroshima at least, it refers to a residential area (mostly standalone houses) especially on a hillside or hilltop, nothing to do with the government.

Danchi generally refers to cheap, mass-produced, and often subsidized housing. From post-WW2 - 70`s.

Generally, the term is pejorative.

Yeah, looking at the Japanese wikipedia article you can see danchi generally has a different meaning in Hiroshima prefecture, I guess we're the odd ones out.
